Dubbed the “Steeple Chase of Bike Racing,” this wild and fierce bike race takes participants over hills, ditches, and mud, featuring challenging elements like carrying bikes up stairs and navigating through intense jockeying for position.
In collaboration with Leonardo Design and DK Communications, the organization behind this thrilling event received support in publicity, event planning, video production, and marketing for the entire weekend extravaganza. Not without its share of controversy, concerns were raised about the potential impact of hundreds of bikes on the terrain at Roger Williams Park.
The pre-event publicity initiatives were diverse, including special school programs aimed at introducing kids to healthy exercise, media pitches highlighting the economic benefits of attracting thousands of Millennials (who may afford bikes priced at a whopping $10,000 each), and a global spotlight on Providence as a hip city. The Mayor and Governor extended a warm welcome to the race, media coverage introduced Providence to millions of new viewers, and KMC Cyclo-Cross earned the honor of hosting a prestigious world-cup event, solidifying its status as a major player in the cycling world.
